Good Sunday afternoon!
Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful break, holiday, and new year. We are thrilled to see our students again after the days away. The first week back was filled with smiles and excitement from everyone. It is hard to believe that we are past the halfway point in our school year. We have many fun things planned for your students this second half of the year and are excited to see their continued growth and development.
We have continued to add clubs and activities here at West and this half of the year we are excited to be introducing Science Club, Spanish Club, and the 4th/5th Grade Boys and Girls Basketball Team. Your children should have or will be bringing home permission forms and more information. If you are interested in joining any of these clubs, please return that information to the club sponsor as soon as possible since space is limited.
Have a great week! As always it’s great to be a Wildcat!

ABCs of Student Success
O is for Overcoming obstacles!
Information has been shared previously about Grit and Growth Mindset, but it is important to touch on the idea again. Our students will face many challenges, obstacles, and adversity in their lives and as they encounter these situations it is important to help them overcome them and persevere. Being able to think critically to solve complex problems and not giving up when confronted with challenges are some of the most desirable traits employers seek in employees. Teaching students to overcome obstacles with grit and a growth mindset will help them achieve great things in their lives!
For more information, you can visit the Mindset Works website ( www.mindsetworks.com ), the Mindset Kit website ( https://www.mindsetkit.org/ ), or read Dr. Carol Dweck’s book Mindset to learn about ways to infuse the growth mindset into your parenting. They all come equipped with useful strategies and tools for parents!
