Dear Middle School Students and Parents:

Thank you for a great first semester.  I would like to compliment the students on achieving several of the goals we have set for them.  One of the biggest goals which the students achieved was an increased attendance rate for first semester compared to the first semester of last year. Increased attendance leads to more time in class and more time learning.  Increased attendance is not possible without parent support and we thank you for that.

Here is a look ahead to some upcoming events for the spring semester.  The students will take the second round of Discovery testing.  You received a copy of the results from the fall testing period which assessed the areas of reading and mathematics.  This will give us a chance to see the growth your child is making.  The second big event is the NAEP test.  Wright City Middle School has been chosen to participate in the NAEP test, a national test measuring the reading and mathematics ability of our 8th graders. We will again have the MAP test which is given in April.  Our School District will undergo MSIP review by the state.  This will be a 3 day visit by an evaluating team to observe the practices of our district schools.  We anticipate nothing but success in these endeavors.

I appreciate the strides your children are taking to make Wright City Middle School a great place to be.  As a school, we are going to continue to stress character education, implement well researched habits of mind, and discuss college readiness. Please feel free to call or contact me if I can ever be of assistance.  Education is the most important undertaking in your child’s life and we welcome your input on how to improve that experience.  If you can stress one ideal to your child, please stress providing the best effort towards their education.

Thank you again for all you do and have a great second semester.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jeff Haug, Principal
