Mrs. Mueller 5th Grade Special Education Teacher

In 5th grade students have been working solving equations. They have been doing an awesome job solving for x. In writing they have been publishing poems. To date they have written a Haiku, Cinquain, (pronounced cin-cane), onomonopia, and a special poem you will receive this coming Sunday. In Social Studies students have been learning about the Revolutionary War. For reading we have been doing Developmental Reading Assessments (DRA) testing. Ask your child how much he/she has improved since the beginning of the school year.
It has been a busy, productive year. The students have great deal of knowledge to take with them to middle school.

Mrs. Newcomer’s Resource Room

In the Resource room there has been lots of good workers and lots of valuable learning being obtained.  The second through fifth graders have improved their reading by learning many sight words and applying their sight words into reading many books.   There have been many reading strategies that they have learned to improve their reading skills.  The students have been working on improving their basic math skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  They have also been working on improving their skills in telling time.  Learning to identify, state the values of, counting money, and making change have also been a learning experience for the students.  Many of the students are very excited about writing stories.  They love being very creative with their writing.  We may have some good authors one day!
Our big project for this semester is our baby chicks.  The children are so excited about watching the baby chicks hatch from their eggs!  We will be incorporating math, reading, and writing into this project.  They are also excited about naming every chick that hatches!  Hopefully, we will have several chick to name in that they discovered the secret of getting more to hatch!  Keep the eggs wet, wet, wet, ALL the time during the day!!
We have had a wonderful year in the Resource room!  I am so proud to have such awesome workers who are willing to put forth a lot of effort and learn many exciting new concepts!!

math club.jpg
Math Club is wrapping up its year.  Students of second and third have had the opportunity to come in before school on their own time to learn or enrich math skills every first, second, and third Friday of the month.  Some of the favorite activities played were Baseball Addition, Football Subtraction, and Magic Pot Probability.  Wright City West Elementary will continue Math Club for the 2012-2013 school year for any second or third grade student.  Plan on joining the club and have fun while strengthening your math understanding and skills.

COMPLAINT RESOLUTION PROCEDURE FOR NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND PROGRAMS

This complaint resolution procedure applies to all programs administered by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).   A complaint is a formal allegation that a specific federal or state law or regulation has been violated, misapplied, or misinterpreted by school district personnel or by Department of Education personnel.  Any parent or guardian, surrogate parent, teacher, administrator, school board member, or other person directly involved with an activity, program, or project operated under the general supervision of the Department may file a complaint. Such a complaint must be in writing and signed; it will provide specific details of the situation and indicate the law or regulation that is allegedly being violated, misapplied, or misinterpreted.  The written, signed complaint must be filed and the resolution pursued in accordance with local district policy: GBM

If the issue cannot be resolved at the local level, the complainant may file a complaint with the Missouri Department of Education. If there is not evidence that the parties have attempted in good faith to resolve the complaint at the local level, the Department may require the parties to do so and may provide technical assistance to facilitate such resolution.  Any persons directly affected by the actions of the Department may file a similarly written complaint if they believe state or federal laws or regulations have been violated, misapplied, or misinterpreted by the Department itself.  Anyone wishing more information about this procedure or how complaints are resolved may contact local district or Department personnel.
