Reading Groups
Mrs. Luigs

The afternoons in room 165 are filled with small reading groups of fourth and fifth graders. Soon, we will jump into reading some level appropriate novels and I couldn’t be more excited about sharing these stories with the students.
My fifth graders will be reading Tuck Everlasting and incorporating reading strategies we’ve learned through the research-based QAR strategies (Question Answer Relationships). We will also focus on unfamiliar vocabulary, journal about the days’ reading and do a big project at the end. All of these activities will aid the students with their comprehension. This story was brought to life a few years ago in the form of a movie, but nothing compares to creating the movie in your own mind through your reading.
One fourth grade group will be reading Poppy and also integrating the QAR strategies, vocabulary, journaling and a project. I know these students will LOVE this story of a mouse’s adventures…I know I did!
The other fourth grade group I see is still working on learning QAR strategies and will soon be able to pick up a wonderful novel to help enhance their learning. I can’t wait to see what will be picked!
